Established
Moderate font weights, generous spacing and a restrained hierarchy create the impression of an experienced organization rather than a company chasing design trends.
The redesigned Block LLC website uses Manrope as its primary typeface. Several modern sans-serif families were evaluated before selecting Manrope for its clean geometry, excellent readability and contemporary appearance.
Using a single typeface throughout the website simplifies the visual language while allowing scale, spacing and layout to establish hierarchy. This creates a cohesive experience and reduces visual distraction across every page.
One of the primary objectives of the redesign was consistency. Regardless of whether a visitor is viewing the homepage, a service, a property or a team member, the typography follows the same hierarchy. This creates familiarity, improves readability and helps visitors quickly identify the most important information on the page.
Used to introduce major sections and provide context before the primary heading.
The largest text on the page communicates the primary message immediately and establishes the visual hierarchy.
The lead paragraph introduces the section with a concise summary before transitioning into supporting content.
Section headings divide larger pages into manageable topics while maintaining the same editorial style established by the page heading.
Body copy is intentionally understated. Font size, line height and paragraph spacing were selected to maximize readability during longer periods of reading while allowing headings and imagery to remain the primary visual focus.
This hierarchy is used consistently throughout the redesigned website. Rather than creating unique typography for each page, visitors encounter a familiar structure that makes navigation and reading feel effortless.
Maintaining this consistency also simplifies future content creation. New pages can adopt the same hierarchy without requiring additional design decisions, ensuring the website remains cohesive as it grows.
One of the most significant changes introduced during the redesign is the increased use of typography as a structural design element. Rather than relying on bold colors, heavy font weights or decorative effects, the website establishes hierarchy through proportion. Larger headings naturally draw attention while allowing the remainder of the page to remain clean and understated.
Used only within hero sections and major landing pages to establish the primary message immediately.
Used as the primary heading throughout interior pages and major content sections.
Introduces supporting sections while maintaining the editorial rhythm established by the page heading.
Provides clear organization within cards, grids and supporting content.
During the design process, more traditional corporate typography was evaluated but ultimately felt reserved and dated. Increasing the scale of headings created a stronger first impression while maintaining the restrained visual style established throughout the redesign.
This approach also improves readability. Visitors naturally scan larger headings first before moving into supporting content, creating a predictable reading pattern across every page.
Typography does more than present information—it influences how visitors perceive the company. Throughout the redesign, each typographic decision was evaluated based on whether it reinforced the professional, established and relationship-focused image Block LLC wants to communicate.
Moderate font weights, generous spacing and a restrained hierarchy create the impression of an experienced organization rather than a company chasing design trends.
Clean typography keeps the emphasis on the firm's experience, people and properties instead of decorative visual elements.
Comfortable reading sizes and consistent hierarchy encourage visitors to engage with longer-form content without feeling overwhelmed.
The result is a visual language that feels confident without being aggressive, modern without appearing trendy, and professional without feeling overly corporate.
While individual decisions were made throughout the redesign, they all support the same overarching objectives. These principles served as a guide when selecting typefaces, establishing hierarchy and refining the reading experience across the website.
Typography should feel familiar from page to page. Visitors should quickly recognize headings, lead paragraphs and body content without needing to learn a new visual language on each page.
Every typographic choice should improve communication. Clear hierarchy, generous spacing and comfortable reading widths make information easier to scan and understand.
Scale is used to create visual impact rather than decorative styling. Large headlines establish confidence while allowing photography and content to remain the primary focus.
Typography should support the overall experience, not compete with it. Decorative fonts, excessive font weights and visual effects were intentionally avoided in favor of a timeless, editorial presentation.
Line height, paragraph spacing and content width were selected to encourage comfortable reading across desktop, tablet and mobile devices. Long-form content should never feel dense or intimidating.
The redesign favors enduring design decisions over short-term trends. By relying on clean typography and consistent hierarchy, the website is intended to remain visually relevant for years without requiring frequent stylistic updates.
Collectively, these principles create a typography system that is recognizable, scalable and easy to maintain as the website evolves. Future content should reinforce these decisions rather than introducing new styles or patterns.
